How do you know what you are capable of if you’ve never questioned your beliefs before?
You’d be surprised what you are capable of.
I used to be one of the slower girls on the rugby team, no lie.
I thought this was just the way it was until I was complaining to one of the upperclassmen about running drills (i.e. being slow).
She retorted “You don’t have to be slow”. And I was shook.
Was she right?
Obviously we are all different in our own special snowflake way and we have to accept our capabilities.
Ha well not quite.
We don’t have to “accept” our capabilities like it is what it is.
Which led me to questioning what my capabilities were and what I wanted them to be.
So, the following off-season, I ran almost every day.
I would imagine for the last minute of my mile that my only mission in life was to be as quick as possible.
Every day I would listen to Rise by Katy Perry and Beggars by Krewella, and every day I would sprint as hard as I could.
Since I was doing this all solo, I wasn’t very optimistic that it was making a difference.
Some days it just felt pointless and I’d question if I even really wanted to change this small thing.
I had other charming qualities, couldn’t I just be known for those instead??
So, when we returned that fall to campus and the Rugby pitch, you can understand my surprise and pride as one of the fastest girls on the team.
Energy flows where focus goes.
It begins with what you believe, you know this.
If you don’t believe in what you can do then you wouldn’t be able to do it.
But once you begin to believe in yourself and your mind is open to that power, you’ll find that everything you need you already have.
Tony Robbins mentioned this mantra he learned as a young adult for when he was at his lowest points and I’m obsessed with it:
All I need is within me now.
Every day and in every way, I’m getting stronger and stronger.
I can’t get over it, it is so powerful and poignant.
All I need is within me now & every day and in every way, I’m getting stronger and stronger.
What you are capable of is determined solely by you because everything you need is ALREADY in you.
Doesn’t that take a weight off your shoulders?
You don’t have to invest serious money or buy all the gizmos, all you need is you!
Whatever it is, even if it’s just in a small way, you can get started today.
But what if I’ve tried and failed before?
Failed once or failed one thousand times, there’s no difference if you keep trying.
Because once you succeed, no one cares how many times you’ve failed, they only care about the success you found.
And if no one else cares, why should you?
Of all my favorite motivational speakers and entrepreneurs, I’ve never once thought less of them because at some point, they’ve failed on their journey.
Instead I’m awed and inspired they continued on and found what they were looking for (and in most cases, much more).
So why do you think the number of failures matters?
It doesn’t, the only reason it would matter is if you gave up and that’s where the story ended.
And here’s another thing –
Isn’t this life all just trial and error?
Aren’t we basically set up to fail in every single new thing we do until we learn how to do it?
We came to this Earth not knowing how to do anything but cry and breathe, everything else we’ve learned or found guidance to help the learning curve.
Whether you’ve always done it by yourself or with others, you’ve still been trying and trying until you get it.
Your life is basically a conglomeration of what you are capable of!
Consider this:
Why were we relentless children always asking for candy when dad took us to Menards?
Every No we got made us work harder for a Yes the next time.
I can’t be alone in this analogy, surely I wasn’t the only kid subjected to “stopping in real quick”?
That’s besides the point, the point is:
Never doubt what you are capable of.
Repeat Tony’s mantra when you need reminding –
All I need is within me now & every day and in every way, I’m getting stronger and stronger.
And let me know what you are capable of!
