But actually, though – why is personal development important? If you’ve been wondering why you should understand personal development, then look no further, this post has the answers!

Personal development feels like such a buzzword lately and while most people think they know what it means, most don’t understand why personal development is important.
Personally, I’ve always been setting off on personal growth journeys and thinking of how to become a better person but if you’ve been wondering how to reinvent yourself, this post will get you started.
PLUS the main reason behind the importance of personal development and what it means for you!
This post is all about why is personal development important.
Why is personal development important?
What it comes down to is understanding what’s important to you right now (your values) and what you want to do in life (your goals).
How you align your values with your goals isn’t a particularly easy task either, it’s one you revisit each day – each decision even – as you try to assess the best way forward.
And the #1 reason is Growth.
Personal development is committing to growth and the possibilities of You.
Whether you take comfort in familiarity or you embrace change, there is one guarantee in life: you will grow.
In the immortal lyrics of Miley –
No one stays the same. Change is a thing you can count on.
Miley Cyrus
Personally, I love the idea that we aren’t ever going to be stagnant as people.
Hence growth is a core value.
Growth encompasses the uncertainty of who you’ll be, the certainty that you WILL evolve, and the expansion of your capacities, capabilities, and understanding.
No one gets to where they’re going without growing along the way.

Ok Kate, I’m following, so why does growth make personal development important?
Because growth is the catalyst to achieving your goals and finding your version of success.
If you want to become a better athlete, you might focus your growth on gettings stronger and practicing the tactical skills needed.
Or if you want to become an entrepreneur, you’ll focus your growth on building a brand or product that serves others and how to reach people.
It comes down to how you spend your time and energy to improve growth in those specific areas.
Let’s circle back to personal development now –
To effectively grow towards your goals, you should have an understanding of how your values align with your goals.

An easy way to start is by making two lists:
One of the values you currently hold and another of the goals you have.
Try to be specific with the values and find the ones that resonate most. Obviously, all values are valuable so you want to make sure you’re selective about which are most valuable to YOU.
Secondly, when making a list of your goals, break them into smaller picture goals and larger picture goals.
If you’re looking to dive deeper into this exercise, you can write your own personal development essay to have a better understanding of how your goals and values connect.
Do not underestimate the power of personal development in your life.
When it comes to making decisions in your career, your love life, etc. it’s so incredibly important to have direction.
If you know where you want to go then you’ll get there faster than if you’re making decisions without a reason.
We’ve all heard it before but that doesn’t make it any less true, direction > speed.
Better to walk in the right direction than to sprint in circles.
Have I overused that metaphor now?

Whether you’re just starting to hone in on personal development or you’ve been using personal development tools to make decisions since forever ago –
There’s always time to reinvent yourself or level up.
You will always be growing and in a constant work-in-progress state, and honestly, what’s more comforting than that?!
So give up perfection and learn direction, you got this!
