I come to you with a book recommendation.
Are you too afraid?
I just spent five days listening to speakers like Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, Jamie Kern Lima (and so many more) talking about taking uncomfortable action to move your closer to your dreams.
AND IT WAS AWESOME.
So incredibly inspiring and everything I needed to hear last week – the perfect reminder to keep hitting my goals even when it’s hard/discouraging/insert other negative emotions here.
I would say that as far as dream-following goes, I’m decently confident in my abilities and have a pretty good idea of what steps I need to take.
However, I started thinking about people who maybe feel less sure of themselves or maybe just confused on how and where to start, so without further ado let me tell you why this book is the best way to get started –
Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones
I (not so) subtly hinted to Matthew for months that I wanted this book for my birthday and bless the boy, he bought it for me.
For those of you who have never heard of Luvvie, I strongly encourage you to check her out (here’s her Instagram) and see what she’s all about!
Her Ted Talk (also linked here because I guess I’m going to be a Luvvie Promotions page now) is how I first got introduced to her but then – as all obsessed fans do – I got into the podcasts, the blog, the Instagram, AND NOW THE BOOK.
She actually has two books, but we’re just going to focus on Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual.
Luvvie is straight up. I love that, she just dives into what you need to hear even if it’s hard to hear.
Her book consists of three main sections: BE, SAY, DO and each section acts as an instruction manual to overcoming and side-stepping fear.
Let’s break it down.
First, she explains that we must acknowledge who we are and make “internal shifts” so we can do the work within ourselves and move forward, even when we’re afraid.
This is a FRANTASSSTIC starting point if you ask me, because so often we forget that we need to know ourselves to use ourselves as a vehicle to get to where we want.
If you don’t know yourself, how you process things emotionally and mentally, what strategies work for you and against you, how are you going to be your best self?
You’re not gonna #hadtosayit .
But once we know ourselves, we can and need to use our voice to advocate for ourselves and others, even when our voice shakes.
~ ooo shivers ~
Isn’t that it though? If we can’t make boundaries and stand up for ourselves, are we really honoring ourselves at all?
And lastly, we have to back up our words through action. DO the things, all the things, even when you might be terrified.
WE APPLAUD YOUR EXISTENCE LUVVIE.
To say that this is a must read is obvious tea. If you’re in, you can buy it here.
Don’t sleep on this.
Seriously, this book is phenomenal for so many reasons but honestly, just her voice and wit would win you over instantly.
Also, did she or didn’t she get on the New York Bestsellers list with this bad boi? SHE DID THAT.
Read the book, let me know what you think, and we can fangirl over Luvvie together.
