Get out of that dark corner of your mind that says everyone else is the finished product and you’re only a work in progress— it’s not true!

Now repeat after me: I am a work in progress and proud to be. Now granted, it’s not always that easy, especially when you’re surrounded by people posting their highlight reels on social media.
If you get caught up in the comparison game and are looking for a reminder that we’re all just doing our best, you’ve come to the right place.
This is the reminder you needed that no one is doing everything perfectly and honestly, you never will… but that’s okay!
This post is all about celebrating being a work in progress.
Work In Progress
Have you been feeling down on yourself lately? Feeling like everyone around you has it figured out and knows what they’re doing with their lives, but for whatever reason, you don’t?
Do you see others and think that they never have low moments like you? Or maybe you just aren’t where you thought you’d be by now, on your imaginary timeline?
Trust me, I get it. These feelings totally suck and it’s so hard not to compare yourself to others when they make life look easy.
It isn’t always easy… truth is, that it will always be a work in progress. Basically, every day we live is a recommitment to our lifelong goal of living well.
And that’s not a bad thing! With that comes a few good reminders—
There is a promise of uncertainty.
There are three constants in life according to Phil Stutz, and those are pain, uncertainty, and constant work.
I personally love that life is uncertain, and that your life could change in any way and at any time. I find that it’s a great comfort to know that nothing lasts forever (good or bad).
It makes you want to cherish every moment even more knowing that it won’t happen again in this exact way. Once you start a new skill or take on a new challenge, you will never be as novice as you are at that moment.
And honestly, would we really want a completely predictable life? There’s beauty in taking a risk without knowing how it will pay off.
No matter how slowly, you will be better the next time you take on that opportunity.
That means you are constantly growing and there’s no limit to that growth which brings us to…
You have unlimited growth potential.

Some people believe that they won’t change and who they’ve been is who they’ll always be. With this sentiment, I agree and disagree.
I don’t believe that anyone can actually stay the same unless they are actively resisting change. It’s in our nature to grow and learn from our mistakes.
With that being said, just because you behave one way now doesn’t mean that’s how you’ll always behave.
You might not always be able to change your circumstances but you can always change your mindset.
We can literally get up at any moment and decide to be different, and any amount of different, from who we were when we woke up.
There are also no chains we are bound to. I’ve had conversations before where someone won’t back down because of how they’ve responded in the past even though that response isn’t aligned with them now.
You don’t have to behave the same if you’re mindset has shifted. You aren’t obligated to be only one thing, you can be and act however you want.
(let’s not go crazy now and start being hooligans, I just wanted to point this out for those of you who think others will judge you for changing your mind)
Since we can be as many versions of ourselves as we want to be, doesn’t it make sense that none of us are really a finished product then?
Technically we all get to be works in progress since we are allowed to always tweak and adjust ourselves!

You can keep getting better and better.
So if you’ve made a mistake, don’t worry because you can fix it. You can change how you’ll respond in the future and be better.
If you’re in your head about how you treated someone or a relationship that went south, you can do better in the next one.
It’s all a learning curve and we all get to give ourselves grace, after all, we’re just doing our best with what we currently know. Once we learn more and experience more, we adjust our responses to align with what we’ve learned.
There’s a famous saying that those who don’t make mistakes never do anything. Don’t let the fear of being a work in progress keep you from taking action and living.
Every opportunity taken imperfectly is better than the opportunities passed up because you waited for perfection.
This post is all about celebrating being a work in progress.
